The Face of Killarney Women’s Mini Marathon 2011

Kimberly Evans is this year’s face of the Killarney Women’s Mini Marathon. Thank you to everyone who entered and we look forward to welcoming you all to Killarney in September.

This was Kimberly’s story:

To whom it may concern,

I’m emailing in hope of being chosen to be the face of the marathon that’s to take place in september.

My names Kimberley Evans, I’m 19 years of age and I’m living in Caherciveen, Co Kerry.

When my auntie Elizabeth Monahan informed me about this cause. I was up for whatever it would take to help this charity.

Elizabeth’s daughter Isabel was diagnosed with leukaemia not long after she was born..

Isabel was my first cousin and my best friend, with just less then a years age gap between us, we were as thick as thieves ! Sadly, after twelve years of battle. The morning after my thirteenth birthday I lost my partner in crime ! Was a very big loss in my family. Isabel, was all giggles and smiles and had such a kind nature ! I think about her a lot and when I’m trying to make a decision, I think of what my cousin would say to me. She’s my inspiration for everything, all the courage and positive attitude she had during her life battling was outstanding and I think that’s what made us all the more sad, as she didn’t deserve to go !

I was up for this marathon, the minute I heard about it as in the past I raised money for a leukaemia charity selling virgin beauty products where half the money was given to the charity. But to be the face of this charity would mean so much more again. Isabel would be so proud and I know my whole family would be very proud too ! I’m not the most sporty person and this will be my first marathon, regardless I know that isabels giggles and support will get me through it, along with a lot of training in august !

I would be over the moon to be chosen. Isabel whom was my shoulder to cry on, my left hand, my partner in crime, my cousin and most of all my best friend did a lot for me, helped me through tough family times and was always at the other end of th phone. I want to do this to show her how much I miss her, appricitae her love and to help others that are in the same situation !

I look forward to running the marathon regardless of being the face or not, as its gonna be a great experience.
